Aquatic Invasive Species Control

Every state grapples with different aquatic invasive species as well as nuisance plants which AE Commercial Diving Services, INC has the expertise and capability to control.  However, there are 6 primary aquatic invasive species which AE Commercial Diving Services, INC. is often hired to address:  Asian Clam (Corbicula fluminea),

Eurasian Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum),

Fanwort (Cabomba caroliniana), Hydrilla (Hydrilla verticillata), Variable-leaved Watermilfoil (Myriophyllum heterophyllum) and Water Chestnut (Trapa natans).

For more information on your state's target species, control rules and regulations, and identification services, see our Links & More page.

AE Commercial Diving Services, INC. specializes in four areas of control: DASH (Diver Assisted Suction Harvesting), Bottom Barriers, Hand Harvesting/Pulling, and Mechanical Harvesting. The method of control recommended will vary according to the type of invasive species, scale of infestation, and the conditions and uses of the body of water that is infested.

Each project starts with a site-visit and consultation with our expert team.  A dive survey, and/or mapping may be recommended in order to offer the best recommendation for control methods.  Also, permits may be required by some states before specific methods can be applied.

Process

Many people wonder how aquatic invasive species first arrived and became a problem in the United States.  The answer is simple: people.  Scientists believe people have introduced these invasive species in two primary ways:

     1. Improper decontamination of boats, fishing gear,                        bilge pumps, ropes, and other marine gear

     2. depositing of aquarium plants and animals into nearby              bodies of water as a means of disposal

Aquatic Invasive Species continue to spread through these human behaviors, in addition to plant fragmentation and seeding, animal transference, and other environmental factors.

While some infestations of aquatic invasive species may be controlled through the application of State-regulated chemical treatments, AE Commercial Diving Services, INC. does not use or implement any chemical means of aquatic invasive species control.
